Questions Carriers Ask

Clear answers on truck age, money down, combined tractor-and-trailer files, lease structures, and credit paths before you send the equipment package.

Can I finance a T880 configured as a dump truck with a pup trailer?

The T880 tractor itself is the financed asset. If you want to add a pup or end dump trailer to the deal, we can package them together under one structure. It simplifies the paperwork and sometimes improves terms to bundle related equipment.

My T880 runs aggregate haul. Will the lender consider that higher risk?

Aggregate and quarry operations are well-understood in commercial truck financing. The harder duty cycle is factored into how we evaluate the truck's condition and remaining useful life. We do not automatically penalize vocational use, but we do look more closely at maintenance records on trucks that work hard.

Can I finance a T880 with a Cummins engine instead of PACCAR?

Yes. The Cummins X15 is a popular choice on T880 builds for heavy haul and high-torque applications. Engine brand does not disqualify the deal, and the Cummins X15 has strong aftermarket support that lenders recognize.

I need two T880 dump trucks for a construction contract. Can I finance both at once?

Yes. Fleet financing packages handle multi-unit deals under a single structure. Two T880 units bundled together often move faster through underwriting than two separate applications, and the terms can improve when the deal size increases.

What is the minimum credit score to finance a T880?

We do not publish a hard cutoff because the score is one factor among several. Cash flow, payment history on existing equipment, down payment availability, and the truck's condition all factor into the decision. Challenged credit profiles get reviewed on the full picture.

The Kenworth T880 is a different animal from the T680. Where the T680 chases fuel economy on the interstate, the T880 is built for work: dump bodies, concrete mixers, boom trucks, and heavy-haul configurations that spend their days on construction sites, quarries, and infrastructure projects. Launched in 2015, the T880 replaced the T800 in Kenworth's vocational lineup and brought a more modern cab, better driver ergonomics, and a powertrain platform that handles both on-highway and severe-duty off-highway cycles without complaint.

If you are buying a T880 to dump aggregate, haul construction materials, or spec it as a tri-axle or tandem for heavy vocational work, we finance it. The deal structure is similar to any other Class 8 purchase but the use case matters, and we are familiar with vocational truck economics. Fill out an application, bring three months of bank statements, and we turn a decision in 24 to 48 hours.

The T880 runs PACCAR MX-13 engine options (up to 510 hp and 1,850 lb-ft torque) or the Cummins X15, which in performance configuration produces up to 605 horsepower and 2,050 lb-ft of torque. The Cummins X15 option is why heavy-haul and towing operators gravitate toward the T880 platform. That torque rating gives the truck reserve power on grades and in loaded conditions that the MX-13 cannot match in peak output.

The T880's cab is a set-forward axle conventional design with a 110-inch BBC. The flat-face cab gives the driver a high seating position and good visibility forward, which matters on construction sites where there is equipment and workers moving around the truck constantly. Kenworth designed the cab with vocational use in mind: heavy-duty door hinges, stainless steel steps, and a simplified interior that holds up to daily field conditions better than a premium OTR cab.

Tandem, tri-axle, and quad-axle configurations are all available on the T880. Compare this to the Equipment Options if highway fuel economy is the priority. Operators running dump bodies for quarry work often spec a Financing Options for maximum payload capacity. Mixer operators who need a different frame configuration can get the T880 purpose-built for a rear-discharge or front-discharge drum. This flexibility is part of why it dominates the Kenworth vocational market.

  • PACCAR MX-13 up to 510 hp or Cummins X15 up to 605 hp / 2,050 lb-ft
  • 110-inch BBC set-forward axle cab design
  • Available in tandem, tri-axle, and quad-axle configurations
  • Built for dump, mixer, and heavy-haul vocational applications
  • Heavy-duty cab construction suited for daily construction site conditions

The T880 customer is running a construction-related business or a vocational freight operation where the truck is on a job site more than it is on the highway. Aggregate and stone haulers who run short cycles from quarry to job site. Municipal and private dump truck operators who bid road and infrastructure projects. Concrete mixer operators who want a Kenworth platform instead of the more common Mack or Sterling alternatives.

These operations have predictable revenue tied to project contracts and seasonal construction cycles. The financing conversation often centers on matching the payment to the project calendar. A contractor who wins a road-paving contract in March and needs two T880 dumps by April needs money to move fast. We do that.

We also finance T880 units for Get Fleet Terms who spec the truck as a prime mover for permitted loads. The Cummins X15 option makes the T880 competitive in that space alongside the Kenworth W900 and Peterbilt 389. Operators who want a more modern cab than the long-hood conventional options provide often choose the T880 for heavy haul work.

New T880 units spec'd for construction work typically run between $155,000 and $210,000 depending on configuration, axle count, and engine choice. A Cummins X15 tri-axle dump spec is at the high end of that range. Used T880 units with 100,000 to 200,000 miles trade running about $80k to $130k, though vocational trucks depreciate differently than highway tractors based on how hard the duty cycle has been.

We look at vocational usage when evaluating used T880 deals. A mixer drum truck that has been running constant start-stop cycles is a different asset from a dump truck that runs highway legs between quarry and site. Both are fundable but the inspection and documentation picture matters more on harder-duty-cycle equipment.

Terms typically run 36 to 72 months on T880 deals. Shorter terms on older or higher-duty-cycle units. Longer terms available on newer trucks with cleaner usage. Down payment depends on credit and asset age. The application-only path handles deals up to approximately $400,000, covering most single T880 purchases and some two-truck packages.

If you are financing a T880 alongside trailer equipment such as end dump trailers or lowboy trailers for heavy haul work, we can often package those in the same deal rather than running separate applications.

Refinancing or Sale-Leaseback on a T880 You Already Own

Vocational trucks accumulate equity differently than OTR tractors. A well-maintained T880 that has been running quarry cycles may have more value remaining than an OTR tractor at the same mileage because highway mileage is lighter on some components than off-road duty. We evaluate each truck on its actual condition and maintenance history when structuring a semi truck refinance.

Sale-leaseback on a paid-off T880 can free up operating capital for a contractor who needs cash for a new project but does not want to sell the truck outright. You sell the truck to the lender, receive a lump sum, and lease it back for an agreed term. At the end of the lease you buy it back at the predetermined residual price. For contractors with project-based cash flow, this structure can make the difference between bidding a contract and passing on it.

Dump spec, mixer spec, or heavy haul, we finance T880 units across configurations. Minimum deal $50,000. Challenged credit considered. Application-only up to approximately $400,000. See all Kenworth financing programs.
