Questions Carriers Ask

Clear answers on truck age, money down, combined tractor-and-trailer files, lease structures, and credit paths before you send the equipment package.

I just got my authority three months ago and I'm leasing on to a carrier right now. Can I get financed for my own truck?

Three months is thin but not impossible. What helps is showing consistent income, even if it's coming through the carrier you're leased to. We have programs for newer authorities and can look at the full picture beyond just time in business.

Can I finance a used Kenworth T680 with 400,000 miles if the truck is clean and recently serviced?

Mileage matters but condition matters more. A 400k-mile truck that's been properly maintained, has current inspections, and is mechanically sound is fundable. We'll need the unit details and the lender will want to verify condition, typically through a physical inspection or detailed service records.

What's the minimum I can put down to get into a truck?

It depends on your credit profile. Strong credit with established authority can sometimes qualify for little or no money down. Thinner credit or newer authority usually requires 10 to 20 percent down. We can tell you what a lender is likely to require once we see the full application.

Can I refinance my current truck and use the cash to buy a trailer?

Yes. A cash-out refinance on a truck you own outright, or one with equity above the payoff, can generate capital you can use for anything including a trailer down payment or purchase. The trailer can also be financed separately through our trailer financing programs.

I have a DBA but no LLC. Is that a problem?

No, many owner-operators run under a DBA. We can work with sole proprietors, DBAs, LLCs, and S-corps. The structure affects paperwork slightly but doesn't disqualify you.

Dallas is where regional freight becomes national freight. The DFW Metroplex is one of the largest freight markets in the country. I-35, I-20, I-30, and I-45 all funnel through here, connecting the Gulf Coast, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, and Memphis into a single hub. If you're running out of Dallas, you already know the lanes are there. The question is how many of them you can cover.

We finance Equipment Options and Financing Options for Dallas-area carriers. Owner-operators scaling to a second or third unit, small fleets adding to their authority, carriers who need a trailer to go with the truck, we handle all of it. Minimum deal size is $50k, sweet spot from $100k to $150k and up, application-only to approximately $400k.

The Dallas freight market runs heavy in retail distribution, manufacturing, and refrigerated lanes. Alliance Airport in north Fort Worth has become a major distribution anchor, with Amazon, FedEx, and UPS all running significant operations nearby. The Toyota plant in Plano, the Alliance industrial corridor, and the distribution density along I-35W in south Fort Worth mean there's constant demand for both local day-cab work and long-haul OTR out of the metro.

Most of our Dallas borrowers fit one of a few profiles. The first is the owner-operator who has been running under someone else's authority and is finally ready to get their own MC number and buy their first truck. The second is the carrier who has one or two units and sees the freight but can't cover it without more iron. The third is the small fleet owner who needs to refinance existing trucks to free up cash for expansion.

Dallas has a large pool of carriers serving Get Fleet Terms lanes heading east toward Memphis and north toward Kansas City. The reefer sector is strong too, with produce coming up from South Texas and Mexico through the Dallas redistribution network. Flatbed is active given the construction and energy sector work in North Texas.

We work with carriers who have authority, carriers who are just getting their authority, and carriers dealing with credit history that isn't perfect. The non-prime truck financing programs we access are built specifically for operators with bumpy credit histories, not just pristine borrowers.

Dallas-area carriers run a wide range of equipment. OTR operators on the Dallas-to-Chicago or Dallas-to-LA lanes typically run high-roof sleepers with APU units to stay compliant in California and avoid idling fines. Day-cab operators running short regional hops or doing distribution work out of the Alliance corridor prefer maneuverability over sleeper comfort.

For OTR work out of DFW, the Freightliner Cascadia and Kenworth T680 are the dominant units you see at the fuel stops. For regional freight, day cabs from Peterbilt and International are common. We finance all of these regardless of brand or vintage, new or used.

Trailers are a separate deal or can be bundled. Dry van trailers move the most freight out of Dallas by volume. Reefer units are common for produce lanes. Flatbed equipment is active for the steel and construction material haulers. If you need a trailer with your tractor, we can usually put them together in one financing package.

Applications come back with a decision in 24 to 48 business hours in most cases. Funding completes in one to two weeks once docs are signed and title work is done. For application-only deals under $400k with clean or near-clean credit, the process is faster because there's less underwriting to do.

What we need to start: your CDL, authority information, Social Security or EIN, and basic details on the unit you want to finance. Bank statements for three months cover the income documentation on most deals. We don't always need full tax returns, especially for operators who are structured as a sole proprietor or single-member LLC.

If you want to move quickly on a truck at a dealer, tell us that upfront. We can prioritize the underwriting to match your timeline. Most Dallas dealers we work with are familiar with the process and can hold a unit while financing clears.
