Questions Carriers Ask

Clear answers on truck age, money down, combined tractor-and-trailer files, lease structures, and credit paths before you send the equipment package.

I run loads from the port to Inland Empire warehouses daily. Is that income strong enough to qualify for a second truck?

Port relay runs with consistent dispatch are some of the most financeable situations we see. Daily runs, predictable revenue, documented income through bank statements or factoring. If the numbers show income that covers two truck payments with room to spare, a second truck is typically approvable.

I found a used 2019 Kenworth T680 day cab that looks CARB-compliant. How do I confirm before financing?

Check the engine year and the emissions equipment. A 2019 truck should have a 2019 engine with a DPF and SCR system, which meets current CARB standards. You can also run the VIN through the CARB TRUCRS database to check the truck's actual compliance status. Bring that confirmation when you apply and it speeds up the process.

My credit score dropped during the pandemic years. It's recovering but still in the low 600s. Can I get a truck now or should I wait?

Low 600s is workable with the right program. You may need a down payment in the 15 to 20 percent range, but programs for recovering credit situations are available. Waiting to build credit further is an option, but the truck you finance now generates revenue that helps you rebuild credit faster than waiting without a truck does.

Can I finance a used truck that needs some mechanical work? The price is good but it needs a new turbo and some brake work.

It depends on the condition and what the lender's inspector finds. A truck that needs minor work may still appraise at a value that supports the loan. A truck in rough shape may not qualify until the work is done. We can give you a better answer once we know the specific truck, the purchase price, and the work required.

What happens if I want to pay off my truck early? Are there prepayment penalties?

It depends on the lender and the loan structure. Some commercial truck loans have prepayment penalties, especially in the first year or two. Others don't. We'll tell you what the specific program includes before you sign. If prepayment flexibility is important to you, mention that when you apply so we can prioritize programs without penalties.

Ontario is where port freight lands. Containers that leave the terminals in Equipment Options and Los Angeles travel about 45 to 60 miles east on I-10 and end up in one of the largest warehouse and distribution clusters in the country. The Inland Empire, centered on Ontario, Fontana, Rialto, and San Bernardino, holds hundreds of millions of square feet of logistics real estate. Amazon, UPS, FedEx, Walmart, and practically every other major retailer and shipper has distribution space here. The trucks that feed this ecosystem are in constant demand.

We finance Class 8 tractors for Ontario-area carriers. Regional distribution operators, port relay carriers running the LA-to-Inland-Empire cycle, OTR operators on the I-10 and I-15 corridors, and small fleets scaling their capacity to match the freight volume in this market. Minimum $50k, sweet spot $100k to $150k and above. Application-only up to approximately $400k. Closing follows final truck documents.

Ontario International Airport is a growing air cargo facility, providing an alternative to LAX for time-sensitive freight. The air cargo ground distribution market around Ontario adds another layer of freight demand for carriers based in the Inland Empire beyond the port relay work.

The Inland Empire warehouse cluster has been one of the fastest-growing logistics markets in the country for the past two decades. As e-commerce volumes climbed, every major retailer needed more square footage closer to the nation's largest consumer market (Southern California), and the Inland Empire's land costs and freeway access made it the obvious location.

For carriers, this means density of freight origin and destination points within a compact geographic area. A truck based in Ontario can pick up in Rialto, deliver to Fontana, relay to a warehouse in Perris, and still be back before the end of a shift. Or that same carrier can run a relay load to the port in the morning and return with an import container in the afternoon. The cycle economics here are strong.

Financing Options serving the Inland Empire distribution network need reliable, high-utilization equipment. These trucks run hard, accumulate miles quickly, and need to stay operational to serve the just-in-time delivery windows that big-box retailers demand. Financing to replace aging iron or add capacity is a regular business need for carriers in this market.

Ontario carriers generally fall into one of two credit profiles: established operators with operating history and documentable income, or newer entrants to the market with recent authority and thin business history. We work with both.

Established carriers with six months or more of operating history and documented revenue typically qualify for our standard programs. Bank statements for three months, CDL, authority information, and truck details are enough to start. Tax returns aren't always required, especially for application-only deals under $400k.

Newer carriers, including those running for fewer than six months or with fresh authority, have access to Get Fleet Terms programs. These programs accept thinner business history and rely more heavily on personal credit, a down payment, and the operator's driving background and CDL experience.

California CARB compliance rules are the same in Ontario as anywhere in California. The truck needs to meet current CARB standards to be fundable as California collateral. We finance CARB-compliant used and new trucks. If you're shopping for a used unit, confirm the engine year and emissions equipment before assuming it's compliant.

Loan terms for Class 8 trucks typically run 48 to 84 months depending on the truck's age and the borrower's credit profile. California trucks sometimes command higher loan amounts because CARB-compliant units carry a premium over trucks in other states where older engines can still be operated legally.

Interest rates depend on credit tier and deal structure. We don't quote rates without seeing a full application because the range across credit tiers is significant. Prime borrowers with clean credit and established operating history get the most competitive rates. Borrowers in the challenged credit range pay more, but often significantly less than lease-purchase programs or dealer financing with inflated backend rates.

For Ontario carriers who prefer lease structures, TRAC leases work well for operations that plan to cycle trucks every three to five years. The residual value at end of term reflects the truck's expected market value, and the payment is lower than a same-term loan because you're not financing the full value. If you want clean title at the end without a balloon, a $1 buyout lease keeps the payment higher but eliminates end-of-term uncertainty.

For Ontario carriers with equity in existing trucks, a cash-out refinance or sale-leaseback can generate working capital. Given the higher truck values in California, equity positions can be meaningful for carriers who've been running long enough to build them.
